For the 5th Organic Farmers’ Festival, to be held this December 2 – December 4, there are many activities lined up for the event.
The event will happen at the newly renovated Organic Market at Gatuslao St., Back of Provincial Capitol Building, Bacolod City.
This year’s theme is “Organic Agriculture: Consolidating Gains, Meeting Challenges and Opportunities”.

5th Organic Farmers Festival

5th Negros Organic Farmers’ Festival set Dec. 2-4, 2010
The 5th Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival is slated on December 2-4, to celebrate the gains that the local organic food stakeholders and organizers have achieved since the festival started in 2006.
The three-day festival, considered as the first and the longest running festival of its kind in the country, will feature cooking demonstrations of organic food by famous Negrense …chefs; exhibits of organic, healthy, local and vegetarian food, and eco- friendly products and technology; talks by nationally and internationally known experts on organic food production and business and related topics; agri-tourism health and wellness fair, and open air concerts of live bands.
Exhibits will be displayed at the Organic na Negros! Market at the back of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Building, while simultaneous symposia will be held at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall and event booth.
The activities, that will center on the theme, “Organic Agriculture: Consolidating Gains, Meeting Challenges and Opportunities,” will start on December 2 at 8 a.m. with a Thanksgiving Mass and blessing of the newly renovated Organic na Negros! Market, to be officiated by Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra.
An opening ceremony will follow, where Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr., Negros Oriental Governor Agustin Perdices, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez Jr., Negros Oriental 2nd District Rep. George Arnaiz Jr., Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, and Agriculture regional executive director Larry Nacionales will address guests and participants.
The festival will feature organic cooking demonstrations by chefs Margarita Fores, Jomi Gaston, Richard Ynayan, Aboy Evaristo and BJ Uy and talks by Mara Pardo de Tavera, Dr. Albert Jo, Honey Grace Catalan, Pamela Henares, Pastor Jerry Dionson, Juan Miguel Gaston, Sagay City Vice Mayor Kent Javelosa, Marivic Rio, Joseph Reyes, Ramon Uy Jr., Ramon Penalosa, Nicholas Matti, Nunelucio Alvarado, Akia Brown, Stephen Zaragosa, and Nelson Sotomil.
To talk about fair trade is Tristan Lecomte, president of Alter Eco of France, who is one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World as a fair trade visionary in its April 2010 issue.
Also to talk about social entrepreneurship is Pacita “Chit” Juan, one of the founders of Figaro Coffee Company, the largest Filipino-owned chain of coffee shops in the Philippines. She is also the president of the Philippine Coffee Board.
The Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival is spearheaded by the Negros Island Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (NISARD) Foundation, in collaboration with the Negros Occidental provincial government and Organik na Negros! Organic Producers and Retailers Association (ONOPRA).*

Miss Earth visits Organic Negros last October 1-3, 2010
October has a blast of surprises for the Bacolodnon as they are to celebrate the Masskara festival this month. Aside from the Masskara Season, Bacolod has been a magnet for tourists because of their promotion to living Organic.

The first day of October didn’t failed Bacolod as they were visited by three beautiful ladies from the Miss Earth pageant. Set for their three day visit to Negros, the three beauty queens were astonished to have discovered the beauty of Negros and the extent it has to promote a clean living by being Organic.

Miss Earth visits Organic Negros

Miss Earth will visit Negros organic farms this coming October 1 – 3 , 2010. The beauties are Miss Earth-Air 2009 Sandra Seifert, Miss Earth-Water 2006 Catherine Untalan, and Miss Earth Philippines 2010 Kris Psyche Resus.
Their highlight is to promote the importance of organic farming in contributing to food security and economic development.

October 1:
8:00 am Penalosa Farm at Victorias City.
9:00-12:00nn Mangrove Planting and Carbin Reef at Sagay City.
12:00-1:00 Museo sang Bata for a storytelling activity and to GK Village in Sagay City.
2:00-down Natures Village at Talisay City
The beauty queens at Natures Village will be treated with an organic dinner.
At Saturday October 2,
6:30am they will visit Fresh Start Organic Farm at Silay city.
9:00am they will be at May’s Organic Garden and have storytelling for kids and lecture on organic farming for mothers.
In the afternoon they will at Melbas farm in Talisay and they will be in SM Bacolod for a storytelling activity.
On Sunday, the beautiful ladies will visit Don Salvador Benedicto town and Alter Trade Mill.
