Native Bags from Toboso
Being very slow when it comes to economic progress and commonly known as the “poorest municipality” in Negros Occidental, Toboso has surprisingly thought its way to excelling in some business establishments.
Historically, Toboso is a municipality that originated way back during the Spanish regime. It was known before as a barrio of Escalante. The community expanded with the cmming immigrants from the Island of Cebu which extensively taught and help them develop fishing, agriculture and commerce. Being declared as a town separated from Escalante on July 1, 1984, Toboso has been independently seeking ways on improving their means of livelihood.
Nowadays, the municipality of Toboso has entered into a livelihood program which gives the local residents an opportunity to earn money with their little businesses. There had been trainings and seminars which made them aware that through simple things and exposure, they can make a living out of it.
During the Panaad Festival of Negros 2010, the Municipality of Toboso has displayed their native products proudly made out of these livelihood programs. They have successfully mastered the art of weaving native bags. These native bags can really catch up with the latest trends of fashion. They are designed in a way that you won’t be able to tell it is locally made from Toboso. But not only that these native bags are unique in their designs but they are of good quality and are of reasonable prices.
