Bogsbrew: Bacolod’s Organic Beer

bogsbrew beer

Ever got to taste a locally brewed beer which ends up to be organic? It may not be new in store, but it always made our minds wonder how can an organic beer taste nothing different from a commercialized one?

Bacolod must be proud to have talented minds when it comes to foods and drink products. Aside from the original recipes invented by famous cooks, from main dishes to desserts, they never fail to excite the tongues of the locals and the tourists alike.

Felix “Bugoy” Hagad, had his long-held dreams come to reality after producing the first ever Bacolod’s local organic beer complete with muscovado.

According to lifestyles Bacolod, an online edition of Bacolod City’s lifestyle magazine, Bugoy’s story with beer started way back on the 80s. The idea had originally sparked in Bugoy’s mind during the late 80s when one of his classmates got his hand in making his own beer. That left him thinking of why not doing it himself?

It must be his fate, for after a few years he got acquainted with one of his wife’s classmates who happened to be engaged in the business of brewing beer.

Bugoy perfectly crafted an original organic Bacoleno Beer with the two main ingredients: pure Negros spring water and the Negrense muscovado.

Believing that NegrosĀ  is an ideal place to brew beer, he was able to perfect the taste by mixing the beer with purely muscovado, which imparts a caramel-toffee flavor to the beer.

Negros has also mountain spring waters which he believes that most brewers all over the world knowingly will give the beer a unique character of its own.

Bogsbrew beer comes in several variants. The like of which is India Pale Ale, Aussie Pale Ale, Czech Pilsener, Canadian Blonde, Mexican Cerveza, Euro Lager and Negros all-grain. They have different recipes and distinct characteristics making each unique in taste but as Bugoy would quote, they are all made with muscovado and refined Negros sugar bathed in Negros spring water.

Cheers to Felix Hagad for brewing a unique blend of an organic beer!
